Soundtrack of My Life

The following presentation is a presentation I made in English.
It is about me and the songs my family and I listen to.

Filtering muddy water

LO1- Design and carry out an experiment
LO2: Explain separation via filtration

Goal: Our goal is to separate mud from water using only the equipment provided

Equipment used:
  • Eight cotton balls
  • Approximately 70 centimetres of string
  • Paper towels
  • One 1.5 Litre plastic bottle
  • Two plastic cups
  • A beaker filled with muddy water

Experiment method/design 1

In science, we are designing our own experiment to filter muddy water. My group and I made a filtering system that managed to get all of the mud out of the water. The first part of the filtration system consisted of a cotton ball wrapped in a paper towel. We tied it around the neck of the bottle after we put the muddy water in, then poured the water into a cup. This got rid of most of the mud. Then we put a cloth over another plastic cup and tied them together. We pushed down the centre of the cloth so that when we poured the water in it didn't spill over the side. This part of the filtration system took a while, because the water took a long time to filter through the cloth, but eventually all of the water was transferred into the cup. At this point, all of the mud was out but the water was still discoloured.

Results and conclusion for Experiment Design 1: My group and I didn't manage to filter the water so it was completely clear. We did however manage to get all of the mud and big clumps of dirt out of the water, which left the water slightly discoloured, but not as contaminated as it originally was.

Here are some other designs and concepts for water filters that I found online.

These are two diagrams showing how to make a home made water filtration system using the following materials/items: Rocks, coarse sand, fine sand, cloth, charcoal, water, string (or a rubber band) and a plastic bottle.

Here are some links to sites that also shows you how to make a water filter:

Bacteria

Bacteria

What is Bacteria?

Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can only be
seen through microscopes. They are made up of only
one cell and are a king of unicellular organisms. They
are among some of the simplest single-celled organisms
on Earth.

What do Bacteria need to survive?

Like all living things, bacteria need food, water and a
proper environment that is suited for their needs to live
and grow (suitable temperature and oxygen levels).
Food sources widely used by humans are especially
vulnerable to bacterial growth because they are particularly
nutritious. They also need moisture to grow. Bacteria do not
survive very long on hard, cold surfaces that have no moisture.
Food that is freeze-dried, is unable to support bacteria. Not all
bacteria is the same. Some species can thrive in oxygen-free
conditions, where as others will immediately die without any
oxygen present.

Review on Practical: Bread Cases

Bread Case Practical Review

Knife safety:
Walk with the sharp side/end facing down towards the ground,
run while holding knives and be sensible. You also shouldn't crowd
around the area where knives are kept, it could cause an accident.

Wash clothes:
In our Home Economics class, we use hand towels, tea towels and dish
clothes. The hand towels for drying hands, tea towels for drying dishes
and dish clothes for washing the kitchen benches and the table. We leave
these clothes out until we've finished the practical and we've made sure
we clean the benches and dishes properly.

Food scrap containers:
In each corner of the benches, there is an old (but clean) ice cream
container. It is used for holding food scraps (carrot peels, potato peels,
bread crust, crumbs, leftover ingredients and more).

Recycling and Rubbish:
There are two small bins at the front of the kitchen we use for Home
Economics. One small one which is used for recyclable materials,
and a taller one used for rubbish (including food scraps).

Different types of performances

Different types of performances

Circuses:
Cirque Grande is an example of a performance that has many different, unique and interesting acts such as:Acrobatics, fire eating, juggling and stilt walking. It is one of many types of performances that many enjoy and pay to see.

Concerts:
Concert is a type of performance that is enjoyed by many people. 'The Moondog Coronation Ball' was the first concert ever held. It took place at the Cleveland Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on March 21, 1952.

Plays:
A play is another type of performance that has been very popular since before 500 B.C and to this day plays remain to take place all the time everywhere around the world. Sir William Shakespeare was a play-writer who wrote his first play in 1590. These are the names of some of his plays: Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Othello

Movies:
The first motion picture camera was made in the 1890's by a now very famous American inventor named 'Thomas Edison'. Thomas Edison was named the 10th-most prolific inventor in the world. This was the start of film history, as at this time major film productions started to be established. Though the first motion picture cameras were yet to be invented, the first film ever made was a short film called 'The Horse in Motion' made by Eadweard Muybridge.
