The first day of school was Wednesday the 1st of February. We got a chance to meet our teachers and had a welcoming assembly for the new year sevens and some year eights. This year I'm in 8Mt, Mr Mitchells class. He showed us a short presentation about himself and showed us our class site. The first week was great I got a chance to meet some of the other people in my class that I had met, but hadn't really talked to before.
The second week of school, we had all of our connect classes (Art, maori, science, P.E etc) and we met our new P.E teacher, science teacher and maori teacher. We did a paragraph of class writing and we started doing reading activities called Hilton Ayreys, where we were given a short story and work based around the story we read. The group I'm in for reading's first story was "A Brush With the Dark side". We also started forming ideas for a class treaty about our C.A.R.R school values. We learnt that the treaty of Waitangi wasn't translated properly as the translators only had a short amount of time to learn the maori language, and didn't quite understand the meaning of it. The Maori peoples idea of treasure was very different from the English's idea of treasure, and so we had to make sure everyone understood what our class treaty meant.
This week was our first full week of school. Monday week two was Waitangi day, and Monday and Tuesday week one were still the holidays. We started our weekly quiz and finsihed our class treaty which Mr Mitchell is laminating. In art we are learning about how to draw bodies. For us to do that, Miss Cairns showed us a short video about DC comics. When they started to be made and why. They were created after WWII as the creators thought the world needed a hero again. We started sketching DC heroes and villain to help learn how to sketch bodies. This term for technology I am in soft materials, and we are designing and creating our own 'Creepy Creatures.' Creepy Creatures are soft toys that are allowed to look like whatever we want. We learnt some hand stitching techniques: Running stitch, Whip stitch and Blanket stitch. We learnt how to do 10mm and 15mm seams. Mrs Laycock taught the ones who finished the rest of their work how to do Applique which is when you stitch a pattern/design onto other material.
The first three weeks of school have been exciting. I met new people and learnt a lot.

P.E Week 3 Term 1 2017
This week in P.E, 8Mt and 8Rc learnt how to correctly do shot put and long jump with Mr Hilliard and Mrs Merrin.
We were split into two groups. (Boys and girls) The girls went to long jump first and shot put second. Mrs Merrin set a point on the ground where we had to run from which was roughly 21 steps back from the long jump pit. She told us we had to take off on one foot and land on two.
After about 25 minutes, we switched over. Mr Hilliard showed us the correct way to throw a shot put using dark green shot puts which were heavier and blue shot puts that were lighter. He explained we had to hold the shot put beside our necks, have our elbows up and make sure the shot put was touching the palm of our hands. We then had to bring our elbow down to our knee and push our arm forward, aiming with our other hand.

Design Logo in Art
Over the past few weeks, 7sh have been designing logos in art. We first had to find the design process and then make a plan of things that we like or facts about us.
When finished, we had to draw about a few sketch ideas in black and white. After we had decided what we were doing, we drew it on google drawings, saved it as a j.peg, and turned it into a stencil on Photo Shop.
I couldn't get on to photoshop so I had to turn it into a stencil on google Drawings
This was my logo...

Mosaic Art History
Mosaics have a long history starting in Mesopotamian in the 3rd millennium BC
What is Mosaic Art?
Mosaic is a form of art that is similar to collage in the fact that it is putting different materials together to make a picture or pattern. These materials are often tiles, types of rocks or pebbles.
When was Mosaic introduced?
Mosaics have been around for about 4000 years starting with the use of terracotta cones pushed point-first into a background for a bit of decoration. It was first introduced in Mesopotamia in the 3rd millennium By the eighth century BC people started using different coloured pebbles and stones to make patterns. It was the Greeks in the fourth century BC that raised the use of Pebble Pavements as an art form. By 200 BC, people started using tesserae to make a more colour detailed effect to there art. They used tesserae that were sometimes smaller then a millimetre to make replicas of paintings.
The expansion of the Roman Empire took Mosaics to the next level. If you compare Mosaics from Roman Britain and Italian you can tell that the British examples are simpler and had less technique. Roman subjects were scenes celebrating their gods as well as domestic themes and geometric designs.
Who made the first Mosaic?
The Greeks. They elevated pebble mosaic to an art of great refinement, and created the "Tesserae Technique"

Gymnastics
This week in P.E, we did Gymnastics. There was a load of equipment set up like low beams, high beams, trampolines, single and double bars and more.
The first thing was learning how to hold our selves up using just our hands which then turned into a headstand.
We then learnt how to do forward rolls and cartwheels. My first attempt at a forward roll wasn't very good but it got better.
After that we had free time to use the beams, single and double bars and the mat we used for learning cartwheels and forward rolls.

For PE today, we did the 20 meter Beep Test. The beep test is where you have to run from one place to another repeatedly before you hear the beep. This is to test your fitness level/ how fit you are. If you don't get to your destination before the beep goes off you are out and you check the charts too see how fit you are. There was a results table for boys and girls, plus all different year levels. The fitness levels were
