Bacteria
What is Bacteria?
Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can only be
seen through microscopes. They are made up of only
one cell and are a king of unicellular organisms. They
are among some of the simplest single-celled organisms
on Earth.
What do Bacteria need to survive?
Like all living things, bacteria need food, water and a
proper environment that is suited for their needs to live
and grow (suitable temperature and oxygen levels).
Food sources widely used by humans are especially
vulnerable to bacterial growth because they are particularly
nutritious. They also need moisture to grow. Bacteria do not
survive very long on hard, cold surfaces that have no moisture.
Food that is freeze-dried, is unable to support bacteria. Not all
bacteria is the same. Some species can thrive in oxygen-free
conditions, where as others will immediately die without any
oxygen present.
